Powerful. Capable.
Independent.

I didn't want just another editor. I wanted something simple, fast, and truly mine—so I built it from scratch. Written in C, it cuts out all the noise and leaves only what matters: your code. It's not perfect, but it's personal.

Built for Coders

Absolutely independent. No unnecessary frameworks, no copy-paste code. Aether is handcrafted from scratch using SDL and C. Every feature, every pixel, every keystroke: yours to command.

info FAQs

You Have Questions, We Have Answers

Everything you want to know about Aether, answered clearly. For everything else, contact us.

When can I get my hands on Aether?

add

Our first Alpha is slated for Summer 2026 on Linux and macOS. Perfect for devs who like living on the bleeding edge—and don’t mind a few rough edges.

Will Aether work on my phone?

add

Short answer: no. Long answer: serious coding deserves a serious screen. Mobile is on our radar, but desktop domination comes first. There’s an experimental Android branch, but it’s more “proof of concept” than “productive coding.”

Are there support tiers?

add

Platinum USD $100,000
Gold USD $50,000
Silver USD $10,000
Bronze USD $5,000
Copper USD $1,000 (shout-out only, no fancy logo)

Sponsorships last a year, then you can renew if you still like us. Your logo or name will proudly sit on our website and in updates. Contact us if you’re feeling generous—or just want bragging rights.

How many are building Aether right now?

add

Our core team is 5 hardcore devs. But there’s a thriving community of contributors who keep the keyboard smoke-free and the commits rolling.

Will Aether run on Windows?

add

Not yet. Making it shine outside Unix-like systems is tricky. Windows is on our to-do list, but desktop purists, rejoice—Linux and macOS first.

What does “built from scratch” really mean?

add

Aether is pure C + SDL magic. No copy-pasting from VSCode, Atom, or Sublime. We borrow only tiny, essential libraries for fonts, images, and audio. Everything else? Handcrafted by keyboard warriors. It’s like artisan bread—but for code editors.

Are you hiring?

add

We grow slowly and carefully—quality over quantity. Right now, the team is lean and mean. We maintain enough runway to survive 18 months of keyboard bashing.

How independent is Aether with sponsors?

add

Sponsors are pure support—no strings, no board seats, no sneaky influence. We answer only to code and our users.

Why C and SDL instead of a “modern” language?

add

C + SDL = speed, control, and chaos-free minimalism. Modern languages are great, but nothing beats the raw feeling of handcrafting your editor. Future plans include exploring safer languages, but for now, old-school low-level wins the day.
